  Education and Training

The construction industry remains one of the most flexible in the opportunities it can offer. Young people can study at the same time as working, by attending college part time or by working towards an NVQ qualification. Alternatively they can attend university or college for a full time or sandwich course and then rise quickly through membership of ICES.

ICES Training Courses
The Institution has recently started offering Training Courses following requests from members for reasonably priced courses relevant to their needs. These are available as either 'Public' - where the course is held at an ICES venue, or as 'In-House' - the Institution being able to work closely with companies to have courses presented at their own premises. The Institution will also provide courses tailored to suit particular companies and these could be provided in conjunction with Institution approved company training schemes, mentioned above.

The tutors chosen to present ICES courses will be experienced professionals from across industry and academia. The course content will be monitored to ensure quality and compliance with the Institution's own core elements of its training and development policy for both pre- and post- Corporate members. Class sizes will be limited to between 12 and 20 delegates in order to encourage audience participation.

Formal Education
The Institution accredits various degree, HND and HNC courses within the fields of Geospatial Engineering and Commercial Management

Accredited degrees offer full exemption from the Institution's Corporate Entry Examination. Other related degree courses may also give exemption from this exam, depending on their course content.

Other qualifications, such as HND, HNC and NVQ may be appropriate for Probationer grade and these members will then need to take the Corporate Entry Examination in order to progress to Member grade.

Approved Experience and CPD
In addition to formal education, the Institution places great emphasis upon the requirement for both pre and post Corporate Member level training and development. Pre-Corporate Membership training and development takes the form of a set of Training Objectives that candidates must complete as one of the elements necessary for attaining the award of Member of the Institution (MInstCES). Post-Corporate Membership training and development takes the form of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). CPD generally follows the core subjects of the pre-Corporate Member training and development thus ensuring continuity and a common thread through the Institution's education criteria and pre- and post-Corporate Training and Development.
