ICES Inaugurates New President

Peter Heathershaw FInstCES has been inaugurated as President for the year 2002 - 2003. Peter, who is an Estimating Director of Midlands based Morrison Construction Ltd, has been a member of the Institution for 27years and became a Fellow in 1988.

He is an active member of the Institution both at regional and national level through his involvement with various committees. Peter is a member of the Institution's Eastern and Midlands Regional Committee, the Education, Training and Membership Committee and was elected as a member of the Council of Management in 1998.

Prior to his appointment as President, Peter also held the position of Chair of the Education, Training and Membership Committee and more recently as Regional Affairs Officer, overseeing the management of the Institution's regional affairs and activities across the UK, in Ireland and Hong Kong.
In his Presidential Manifesto, Peter makes a number of definitive pledges to the Institution and its members, including:

  • To renew the existing ICES and Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) agreement, which has been in place since 1992.
  • To encourage membership from a `grass-roots` level, following the introduction of the Institution's new technical grade, Technical Member TMInstCES.
  • To offer support and guidance to the new ICES Graduates & Students Committee and to encourage further participation nationwide.

The Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors is governed by the Council of Management, which oversees the overall direction and policy of the organisation. The Council of Management is composed of a President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President and fifteen ordinary members, all of which are directors and trustees of the Institution.

The Institution has also appointed John Wilding FInstCES as Senior Vice President and Robert Fleming FInstCES as Junior Vice President for the new Presidential Year.
