Technical membership is available for both commercial management and geospatial engineering surveying specialists. A Technical Member is committed to maintaining the ICES continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.
Eligibility
A Technical Member will have:
- Either an approved HNC/HND or NVQ Level 3 and/or successfully completed the ICES Technical Member competencies.
- At least three years’ approved experience.
- Successfully completed the ICES Technical Member Review (a short interview).

- Ten copies per year of the Institution journal, Civil Engineering Surveyor.
- Access to ICES regional events programme.
- The opportunity to become an active member of the ICES Network (incorporating the Graduates and Students Society) and participate in its activities (if under 35 years’ age).
- The opportunity to apply for Corporate membership via the Graduate Route or Mature Entry Route if they are eligible, having held the Technical Member grade for at least two years.
How to Apply
The Technical membership application must include:
- For first time applicants: Application form (ICES101) signed by two sponsors.
- For existing members: Upgrade form (ICES102) signed by two sponsors.
- A passport sized photograph.
- Two copies of a detailed CV (1,000-1,500 words).
- Two copies of an Experience Report (1,000-1,500 words).
- A record of continuing professional development (CPD) undertaken in the last year.
- The necessary application fee.
- Either evidence of an appropriate qualification or a completed ICES Technical Member competency form.
