RSME gains reaccreditation
The Royal School of Military Engineering has had its surveyor training programme reaccredited by ICES. The programme has had close links with the institution since the late 1990s, with the initial accreditation being given to the school's class 1 and 2 courses in 1999. ICES requires accredited courses to be reviewed every five years. ICES also presents an award for top student on both class 1 and 2 courses, on recognition of their achievement.

New MOU with Australian surveyors
The institution has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS). AIQS is a national organisation for quantity surveyors in Australia with chapters and divisions in all of the states and territories. The institute is an active participant in all the industry major forums and lobby groups, including the Australian Council of Building Design Professions, the Construction Industry Forum and the Council of Professions. The AIQS also collects and publishes cost data and the Australian Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works (5th Edition). As the next FIG congress will be in Sydney in April 2010, it is hoped that delegates from both organisations will be able to meet up and discuss how mutual relations can be extended. For more information about AIQS see w: www.aiqs.com.au

Teachers of Surveying 2009
ICES is cosponsoring the annual teachers of surveying meeting this winter. The event is to be held at Nottingham University from 16-17 December 2009. This will be the 45th meeting of the group that regularly attracts 40-60 people interested in all aspects of survey teaching and education. The meeting aims to bring together novel and innovative teaching and assessment techniques, such as e-learning, web based delivery, distance learning, pod casting and electronic instrument tutorials, as well as having lectures about new instruments and techniques, such as GNSS, laser scanning, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), photogrammetry and ground based SAR. The event is an excellent opportunity to network and find out practices that others use and adopt in their teaching. Anyone interested in attending, contributing or presenting at the meeting or finding out more should contact Gethin Roberts (t: 0115 9513933 or e: [email protected])
