Members are informed that each region is now making preparations for its Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held in March 2005. About three weeks prior to the AGM you will receive a letter of invitation from the region chairman, an agenda and if necessary a ballot form.

Many of you have probably considered offering your services to your region committee but have not done so due to business or personal commitments or possibly you have hesitated due to not knowing what is involved.

Region committees work within published guidelines, known as ‘The manual of procedures for the administration of regions' and if you are interested in assisting your region and would like a copy of the manual, please contact ICES and request one. Alternatively, or additionally, speak to your region chairman who will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

21 March 2005: AGM

I know the Holiday Inn at Wakefield (junction 40/M1) is not the most glamourous of locations to spend a Monday night, but please please consider popping in at 8pm. The Yorkshire region needs you. New faces are desperately needed to enable the region to prosper. It is a distinct possibility that the Yorkshire region will fold this year — due to existing committee members stepping down and a lack of interest from new members in joining us. Please consider coming along to the AGM to see what it's all about. We meet every two months and are very adaptable (nay, welcome) to new ideas and new ways of running things.

This is your chance to stamp your mark on the region and help make it into a success with events and activities that will be the envy of all. It will be of benefit to your CPD, it looks good on a CV, it will help you develop a network of contacts and friends in the civil engineering surveying field and it will get you out of the house for an hour or so to sample the delights of Wakefield [it's not that bad — your assistant editor once spent a new year's eve in Wakefield and was pleasantly surprised]. Indeed, if enough people agree on a different location, the committee is even willing to move. Please ring Peter or Mike if you want more information on joining us. They are nice men and won't bite.

If any member wishes to discuss any business or would like to get more involved with regional affairs please don't hesitate to contact your Regional Secretary on the above telephone number or at his email address, [email protected]

In order to improve the communication throughout the region the committee would like to request that all members forward on a contact email address to [email protected] (please note that this will ONLY be used for the notification of region events and for no other purpose).
