This meeting will include discussions of forthcoming events, reports from various ICES committees, and local engineering/professional development news. 20 February 2009: Site visit and guided tour of the Eden Project, 10am
Often regarded as the ‘eighth wonder of the world', the Eden Project has gone down in history as the early 21st century's principal environmental construction. Each of its characteristic domes houses a different ecosystem and the largest (the rainforest biome) could easily contain the Tower of London . The Eden Project's history and construction will be explained by Mark Paterson, in a 2-hour guided tour for ICES members and their colleagues. Mark is a teacher and tertiary education coordinator at the Eden Project, and has worked there for nearly eight years. The attendance fee is £10.50 and preregistration is essential. Please contact ICES regional coordinator Serena Ronan on 0161 972 3101 (sronan@ices.org.uk) for further details and to preregister for this event.
18 March 2009:AGM, Network Rail offices, Bristol Parkway 7:30 for 8pm
Invites will be posted out prior to the meeting. It is highly likely this AGM will give members a detailed outline of the ICES royal chartership application. As in recent years, a buffet and a technical presentation based on a local engineering project will accompany the AGM. Please contact the regional secretary if you wish to inclu de anything in the agenda and contribute something to the meeting.
