Members are informed that each region is now making preparations for its Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held in March 2005.

About three weeks prior to the AGM you will receive a letter of invitation from the region chairman, an agenda and if necessary a ballot form. Many of you have probably considered offering your services to your region committee but have not done so due to business or personal commitments or possibly you have hesitated due to not knowing what is involved.

Region committees work within published guidelines, known as ‘The manual of procedures for the administration of regions' and if you are interested in assisting your region and would like a copy of the manual, please contact ICES and request one.

Alternatively, or additionally, speak to your region chairman who will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

From the Chairman
Your committee held their autumn committee meeting, recently, on Wednesday 17 November 2004 at Statham Lodge, Lymm, discussing various issues regarding the regions business. The next meeting is to be held in the bar on Wednesday 16 February 2004 at Statham lodge, Lymm, commencing at 6.30pm.

Some interesting CPD events are being arranged by the committee and details will be published shortly including a GE event for our Engineering Surveyors, titled, GPS – Past, Present and the Future, which is to be held on 7 April 2005 at the Hoole Hall, Chester, commencing at 6.00 pm.

I have recently arrived back from competing in the Lighthouse Run 2004 and have raised £500.00 for the Lighthouse Clubs Benevolent Fund, which is a charity, which looks after construction workers and their families in times of need. Details of the run are described in this month's journal. I have provisionally entered for the 2005 run and will be looking for a massive increase in the level of money raised and am looking for volunteers to assist me in my efforts and all offers of help will be very much appreciated.

I am now coming to the end of my 2 years as chairman and due to pressures of work, will be standing down as required by the constitution, I am not standing for re-election and therefore a new chairman is required.   The present secretary and treasurer positions are up for election and we are looking for some new blood to join the rest of the committee. I am increasingly becoming concerned at the poor level of support offered by the 400 plus membership within the North West & North Wales Region and together with the other committee members we are discussing various ideas and ways in which we can inspire the membership.

A package of ideas is being drafted at present including individual phone calls to the members to listen to their excuses. You have been warned!

f any member wishes to discuss any business or be involved in any way with local affairs please don't hesitate to contact Chris on the above telephone number or at [email protected]
