ICES rejects RICS
ICES members have voted against accepting the RICS offer. There was a strong turnout with two thirds of the members eligible to vote doing so, of which 57.1% voted against the resolution. John Wilding, ICES President, commented that this was a clear mandate to continue as an independent, specialised body but noted that there was a significant minority which felt that ICES could do better. Mr Wilding added that he would welcome correspondence from the 'Yes' voters identifying the principal issues that had persuaded them to vote as they did, but in the interim intends to put before Council:
  • A proposal that ICES set up a Civil Engineering Surveying Forum to which specialist surveyors from other institutions would be invited to join.
  • A proposal that RICS be invited to enter into a reciprocal membership arrangement similar to that already in place with ICE granting membership, without examination, to ICES Corporate Members (MInstCES, FInstCES).
