ICES
Upgrades Membership Structure
The
Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) has introduced a new
membership structure.
The new structure boasts a number of additional and improved features
which will offer many personal and professional benefits to both existing
and future members of the Institution.
One
of the key features of the new membership structure is the launch of
a new technical grade of membership, the Technical Member TMInstCES
grade.
This
new grade of membership will be introduced by the Institution in two
stages. The technical grade of membership for geospatial engineering
specialists was launched on the 1 September 2002 and will be followed
by the introduction of a technical grade for commercial management specialists
on the 1 January 2003.
The
Institution's membership structure now offers seven grades of membership,
namely Student Member, Affiliate Member, Graduate Member, Associate
Member AMInstCES, Technical Member TMInstCES, Corporate Member MInstCES
and Fellow FInstCES, which ensures that civil engineering professionals
at all career levels are recognised by the ICES.
In
addition to the introduction of a new technical grade to the Institution's
portfolio of membership grades, the other main features of the new structure
includes:
- The
amalgamation of the Affiliate Member, Student Member (part-time) and
Probationer Member grades into a new Affiliate Member grade. All existing
Student Members (part-time) and Probationer Members will however retain
their existing membership grade status.
-
Clearer instructions for the Institution's Corporate Review Interview
candidates, together with the introduction of a revised system of
moderation for applications and interviews.
- The
Institution's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements
will apply to all Technical Members, Corporate Members and Fellows.
This will also apply to all Associate Members with effect from 1st
January 2004.
-
Members Continuing Professional Development (CPD) records will be
assessed by rota instead of random sample.
- Revised
ICES Approved Training Guidelines will be introduced. The commercial
management training guidelines will come into effect from Spring 2003.
-
The Institution's Commercial Management Corporate Entry Assessment
course, which comprises three compulsory subject examination papers,
are to become modularised and may be assessed at different times.
- Clearer
guidelines have been set for the requirements of new membership applications
and upgrades.
The
introduction of a new membership structure further demonstrates the
Institution's commitment to offering an added value service to its members
and to encourage and support the professional development of civil engineering
surveyors worldwide.
