Leading
Construction Industry Professional Institutions Join Forces
This event was organised exclusively for students and graduates of all ages who are interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry as part of National Construction Week 2002. Over 70 people attended the event to hear senior representatives from the construction industry's major professional institutions talk about careers in the construction industry and professional membership opportunities. The 'Meet the Construction Professionals' seminar was opened with an introductory speech from Professor Terry Lane, Chairman of the Chartered Institution of Building (CIOB) East Midlands Branch, followed by presentations from Dominic Harman representing the CIOB, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) East Midlands Regional Chairman, John Finch, the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors Marketing and PR Officer, Jacquie Warburton and Greg Gurthie of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). A 'Question and Answer' session, chaired by the ICES Graduates and Students Committee representative, Dave Stanton, offered the audience the opportunity to put questions to the Panel. The visitors also had time to socialise following the presentations and to see each of the professional institutions exhibition stands, which were staffed by senior members together with student and graduate members, to find out more information about membership, qualifications, training courses and workshops and advice on how to progress in their chosen construction profession. This event was organised by the ICES East Midlands Graduates and Students Committee in association with Nottingham Trent University's School of Property and Construction and sponsored by McCane Construction. The event took place on Thursday 3 October 2002.
