  • Hydrographic surveying
  • Cartography and visualisation

A candidate will have, within two years prior to the closing date for nominations, made an outstanding contribution in any of the following ways:

  • Working in a senior position with the responsibility for co-ordinating all aspects of surveying/setting-out on a major, high-profile construction project.
  • Involvement in developing new methods/techniques either specific to a particular project or generally.
  • Contribution to academic research that will have significant impact on the future of any aspect of the geospatial engineering surveying disciplines.
  • Making a lifetime contribution to the profession.

A Selection Panel, which is composed of senior members of the Institution who specialise in the field of geospatial engineering surveying, will judge each application based on a set criteria. The Geospatial Engineering Surveyor Award selection process is organised by the Institution's Geospatial Engineering Practices Committee (GEPC).

The winner of this award will be presented with the Institution's Richard Carter Prize, which comprises a gold medal, a cheque for £500.00 and a certificate to commemorate their achievement.

The Geospatial Engineering Surveyor Award offers many personal and professional rewards to the successful candidate. The recipient of last year's award, Richard Maltby MInstCES, looked back to when he received the award in September 2002:

"This award has meant a great deal to me personally and professionally," said Richard. "To receive recognition from fellow professionals for my contribution in a project which I have been involved in for over five years is a great honour and to be presented with the award at the House of Commons was a very special occasion."

Richard adds, "Since winning the award, I have been invited by the Institution to join two of its core committees, namely the Education, Training and Membership Committee and the Geospatial Engineering Practices Committee."
