The Corporate Review Interview

What is the Corporate Review Interview?
The Corporate Review Interview is a formal interview and discussion forum, and is a means for the Institution to effectively and fairly assess applications for the Corporate Member grade.

The Corporate Review Interview aims to provide the candidate with the opportunity to demonstrate his/her knowledge, understanding, competence and experience in civil engineering surveying.

The Interview Panel will in turn discuss with the candidate the information provided within the written application and during the Interview in order to corroborate the information submitted.

What will be expected of you during the Corporate Review Interview?
The Interview will last one hour and falls into three parts:

Part One - The Presentation
All candidates are asked to prepare and give an informal 10-15 minute presentation about a particular project (normally the project described in the Experience Report). The presentation should be given without the use of audio visual aids.

Part Two - Presentation Review
The Interview Panel will question the candidate for 10-15 minutes about the content of the presentation.

The Interview Panel
The Interview Panel normally consists of three Institution Fellows. Panellists undergo interview training. The performance of panels and the standards expected from candidates are constantly monitored by a team of moderators. Panellists serve the Institution on a voluntary basis.

Appeals
Should a candidate wish to appeal against the decision of the Corporate Review Interview Panel, the following procedures would apply:

  • Payment of a £200 fee (refundable if the appeal is successful).
  • The candidate must make a statement indicating the reasons for lodging the appeal.
  • The Chairman of the original Interview Panel will also be asked to write a statement about the conduct and decision of the Panel.
  • The appeal will be considered by an Appeals Panel (appointed by the ICES President).
  • The Appeals Panel will submit their findings to the Chair of the Institution's Education, Training and Membership Committee, who in turn will communicate the outcome to the candidate.
  • The decision of the Chair of the Institution's Education, Training and Membership Committee is final.

The ICES Corporate Entry Assessment is a project based dissertation which, if successfully completed, meets the academic requirements for upgrade to the Corporate Member grade of membership and satisfies all the requirements for the Graduate Member grade of membership.
