6 September 2006: Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Ireland Presentation ‘The Dangers & Benefits of Evaluative Mediation – Arbitrators as Mediators – an Oxymoron?’ at the Royal College of Physicians, No 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2 commencing at 6.30pm. Guest speaker is Colin Wall, President of the CIArb. He is also an experienced chartered arbitrator, Fellow of the CIArb, past chair of the CIArb Hong Kong Branch, the Hong Kong Mediation Council and the HKIAC Mediation Group, deputy president of the UIA Forum of Mediation Centers and a fulltime dispute resolver. He has over 30 years of experience, acting for both contractors and consultants in an advisory and executive commercial capacity. His primary expertise has been gained in civil engineering, building and process engineering. The lecture will be followed by a wine reception. A nominal fee of 20 euros is payable prior to the event.
19 September 2006: Committee Meeting & Dispute Resolution and Conciliation within Construction Projects At the Red Cow Hotel, Dublin at 5.30pm. Presentation by Roy Sherlock, commercial and legal manager, SIAC Construction will follow at 6.45pm. Refreshments will be served. Flyers will be sent out to all members shortly.
5 October 2006: International Arbitration At Phoenix Park (Farmleigh). Organised by Chambers Ireland in association with the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration. Speakers include the attorney general, Rory Brady (senior counsel) and Professor Pierre Tercier (chairman of the International Court of Arbitration).
12 October 2006: Venice Lecture A presentation by ICE Ireland at Trinity College Dublin. The seminar was originally held in Turin and concerns flood protection measures and subsidence control measures for Venice and will be of interest to civil engineers and civil engineering surveyors alike. The venue is subject to final confirmation in the forthcoming flyer which will be circulated to ICES members.
18 October 2006: Foreign Workers in Ireland – Construction Law A breakfast briefing by Richard Stowe, Damien Keogh and Paul Glenfield, solicitors from Matheson Ormsby Prentice. The unprecedented number of non-nationals in the Irish construction workforce is a significant factor in the continuing growth of both the construction industry and the economy generally. At the same time, however, the foreign worker factor represents a challenge to both employers and contractors in ensuring that they and their subcontractors, at every tier, remain compliant with Irish labour laws. The briefing will be held at Engineers Ireland HQ, Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin commencing at 8am for breakfast. The briefing will commence at 8.30am sharp and finish at 10.30am. Please arrive early to allow for parking. A cover charge for the event will be 50 euros, payable on the day. Flyers have been sent out to all members. Numbers are strictly limited so please remember to book early.

ICES Ireland and all the committee members of each branch would like to wish Matt Meehan, secretary of the Munster Branch, all the best with his new life in France.
