Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Involve the obtaining, compilation, input and manipulation of geographic and related data and the presentation of that data in ways and formats specifically required by the end user.

The above definition is based upon those contained in The Establishment of the Profile and Definition of the Geodetic Surveying Profession to meet the requirements of the General Public and the Commission of the European Union published by the Comite de Liaison des Geometres-Experts Europeens in May 1996.
