The Graduates and Students Committee consists of student and graduate representatives who each have responsibilities for activities and events in their area.

The Committee has two main strands of responsibility:

• To discuss issues of interest to student and graduate members and to refer policy proposals to other committees and to Council of Management. This ensures that the views of students and graduates are heard and acted on.
  
• To co-ordinate the technical and social activities of the regional groups and to be responsible for the Society budget.

The intention is to give a large degree of autonomy to the activities of young members and to ensure that their ideas and recommendations are heard and acted on within the Institution.
