Active or advisory legal function performed by lawyers or specialist construction practitioners who primarily work with civil engineering contacts and in regard to the settlement of claims and disputes.

The above definition is based upon those contained in The Establishment of the Profile and Definition of the Geodetic Surveying Profession to meet the requirements of the General Public and the Commission of the European Union published by the Comite de Liaison des Geometres-Experts Europeens in May 1996.
